Dance classes for kids ages 9 and up

Classes begin the first full week of August. For convenience, the yearly tuition is divided into equal monthly installments.

Unless otherwise noted, each class meets once per week.

• Jazz

  Jazz Level I

  What it is:

  Jazz 1 is a class for ages 9 & up focusing on jazz basics such as jazz walks, jazz squares, leaps and pirouettes while building strength, flexibility, endurance and balance. This class challenges dancers to explore energy and rhythm, isolations, improvisation and storytelling.

  When it is:

  Tuesday 7:00 p.m.
  Saturday 1:00 p.m.

  Class length:

  45 minutes

  Shoes needed:

  Girls – tan academy jazz shoes
  Boys – black jazz shoes

  Attire:

  Girls – mulberry academy leotard and academy tan tights
  Boys – Academy T-shirt and black pants

  What it is:

  Jazz II/III is a class for ages 9 & up, builds upon Jazz 1 skills and focuses on performance quality, personal expression and improvisation.

  When it is:

  Saturday 3:15 p.m.

  Class length:

  45 minutes

  Lyrical I

  What it is:

  Lyrical 1 is a beautiful blend of ballet and jazz set to contemporary music.

  When it is:

  Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
  Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

  Class length:

  45 minutes

  Shoes needed:

  Girls – tan academy half sole lyrical shoes
  Boys – black ballet shoes

  Attire:

  What it is:

  Lyrical is a beautiful blend of ballet and jazz set to contemporary music. Builds on Lyrical 1.

  When it is:

  Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

  Class length:

  45 minutes

• Contemporary

  Contemporary I

  What it is:

  Contemporary is a class for ages 9 & up and blends ballet, jazz and modern dance technique. Dancers are introduced to concepts such as fluidity and flow, floor work, and use of space and breath. This class challenges students to “think outside the box” of typical movement for storytelling.

  Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

  Tap Level 1 is a great complement to Ballet for the student age 9 or older who is a total beginner.

  Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
  Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

  Hip Hop Level 1 combines the latest moves in jazz and hip hop for an exciting and energetic class. This class is a great way for students to have fun and express their personality and exuberance through dance.

  Ballet Level 1A is designed for the beginning student, age 9 or older, who did not take ballet as a young child. This is a great class for fitness, poise, and flexibility.

  Ballet Level 1B is designed for the intermediate student, age 9 or older, who has taken ballet as a young child. This is a great class for fitness, poise, and flexibility.

  Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
