Dance classes for kids ages 6 – 9

Classes begin the first full week of August. For convenience, the yearly tuition is divided into equal monthly installments.

Unless otherwise noted, each class meets once per week.

• Ages 6 – 7

  Beginning Ballet

  What it is:

  Beginning Ballet is a class for 6 - 8 year olds focusing on basic ballet sequences, and builds on foundational skills.This class begins the transition into the study of classical ballet. Students are asked to perform many of the exercises in "turn-out" and to combine steps to form dance combinations. Each class will focus on French terminology, musical awareness, balance, agility, and gross motor development. Creative movement concepts and pretend play continue to be woven into exercises throughout class, and classes are designed to meet the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of 6 - 8 year olds.

  When it is:

  Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
  Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
  Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
  Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
  

  Class length:

  45 minutes

  Shoes needed:

  Girls – Academy classic pink ballet shoes
  Boys – black ballet shoes

  Attire:

  Girls – light blue academy leotard and academy classic pink tights
  Boys – Academy T-shirt and black pants

  Recital:

  Beginning/Building Tap

  What it is:

  Beginning/Building Tap introduces the 6 – 8 year old to the rhythm of tap. This class is an excellent complement to Beginning Ballet!

  When it is:

  Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
  Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
  Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
  Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

  Class length:

  30 minutes

  Shoes needed:

  Black tap shoes

  Attire:

  Girls – light blue academy leotard and academy classic pink tights
  Boys – Academy T-shirt and black pants

  What it is:

  Beginning/Building Jazz introduces the 6 – 8 year old to the beat and style of jazz. Great contrasting supplement to Beginning Ballet and Beginning/Building Tap!

  Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
  Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
  Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

  Beginning Hip Hop 6 - 8

  What it is:

  Beginning Hip Hop is a class for 6 - 8 year olds and focuses on rhythm, improvisation, and hip hop foundations. Dancers are introduced to different style elements such as breaking, house dance, and party grooves. Classes are designed to meet the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of 6 - 8 year olds.

  Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
  Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
  Saturday at 9:15 a.m.

  45 minutes

  Building Ballet

  What it is:

  Building Ballet is a class for 7 - 9 year olds and focuses on building upon foundational ballet steps, while beginning to incorporate with barre and center work. This dance class transitions young dancers into the study of classical ballet. This class combines traditional formal technique training with a creative approach to learning movement through dance imagery and is designed to meet the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional developmental needs of 7 - 9 year olds.

  Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
  Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
  Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
