"Together We Dance" is a FREE dance class for children with special needs

Together We Dance is a joyful and inclusive dance class designed specifically for children with special needs. This free program provides a welcoming space where every child can express themselves through movement, music, and dance. Each dancer is paired one-on-one with a youth student mentor, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for learning and fun.

Each class is structured to accommodate a variety of abilities, ensuring that all students feel comfortable and engaged. A youth student mentor (aged 10-18) is paired with each student, offering guidance, encouragement, and friendship throughout the class. The class incorporates gentle stretching, creative movement, and choreography, all tailored to the individual needs of the participants. The atmosphere is relaxed and celebrates every achievement, no matter how big or small.

Together We Dance is open to children of all ages with special needs. No previous dance experience is required.

This class is powered by volunteers—youth dancers who are eager to give back, share their love of dance, and form meaningful connections with their dance buddy. Through this experience, both the dancers and their mentors learn valuable lessons in empathy, teamwork, and the beauty of inclusivity.

The volunteer component is an integral aspect of Together We Dance. Youth Student Mentors are accomplished dancers at West Chester Academy who make a half hour commitment per week to partner with a student and help them during class by modeling dance steps and assisting with following directions. Mentors and students form close relationships and often become like part of each other’s families. The goal is not perfection. The goal is for each dancer to find joy in dance and performing.
